🚨 Breaking News: Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba Announces He will Step Down
Tokyo, Sept 7 – Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has announced his decision to step down, public broadcaster NHK reported on Sunday.
Ishiba said he would resign in order to prevent further division within the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
His resignation comes after the LDP-led coalition lost its majority in both houses of parliament, amid growing voter frustration over rising living costs.
LDP lawmakers will meet on Monday to decide whether to hold an extraordinary leadership election to choose his successor.
Before his announcement, Ishiba’s government had recently finalised details of a trade deal with the United States, one of his key policy achievements.
